Margo Price Wild at Heart Tour with Special Guest Jeremy Ivey
Nearly a decade ago, Margo Price turned Nashville on its head with her breakthrough, beloved debut solo album, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter. Released in the throes of bro-country and before pop stars were crossing over into the genre left and right, it showcased an artist completely unafraid to double down not only on herself, but what she’d always loved: classic country songs written from the intellect and the gut, hell-bent on truth-telling and both timeless and urgent all at once. Respected by her peers, praised by critics and beloved by her fans, Price created a lane where independent-minded, insurgent country music can exist and thrive alongside the mainstream, and became an ardent fighter for her beliefs in a genre where the norm is to shut up and sing. A trailblazer and a champion for the craft, Price redefined what it meant to be a modern country artist.
And now she’s back with an exquisite, truly timeless album that reconnects with her roots and pays tribute to the art of the country song, inspired in part by the legends whom she now calls colleagues and friends. Hard Headed Woman is both a look forward and a look back: a way to march forward while staying true to yourself when the path of less resistance is right there in front of us, and short cuts are around every corner. And a way to look back when we need to trim what is no longer working, and to stay connected with where we’re from. It is a promise and a manifesto, a love song to both a city and a genre, and a defiant cry for individuality.
Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Jeremy Ivey first established himself in the early 2010s as a member of the country-soul band Buffalo Clover alongside his wife, singer/songwriter Margo Price. When Price's career took off in 2016, Ivey served as her guitarist and sideman for several years before signing a deal with Anti- and launching a solo career of his own with the albums The Dream and the Dreamer and Waiting Out the Storm. Growing up in a conservative family in Georgia, Ivey spent a number of years bouncing around the country, working in kitchens and playing guitar. He eventually ended up in Nashville where he met Price. Creative and romantic partners, the couple spent some time in Colorado busking and writing songs together before heading back to Music City, where they eventually married and became active in the local indie scene. After playing a background role in various local bands, including the Secret Handshake, Ivey and Price formed Buffalo Clover in 2008. The band's vintage-inspired country, rock, and soul earned them an audience, and over the next several years, they released three albums together. When Price released her solo debut, 2016's acclaimed Midwest Farmer's Daughter, Ivey settled into a sideman role as her musical foil/lead guitarist during the next several years. In 2019, after many years of working as a collaborator and supporting other artists, he took his own turn in the spotlight, signing a deal with Anti- to make an album of his own. Released in September of that year, Ivey's debut, The Dream and the Dreamer, offered a mix of warm, guitar-driven country rock and folk with a light touch of psychedelia. Proving himself to be a quick worker, he went right back into the studio to record 2020's musically similar, though more overtly political Waiting Out the Storm which, like its predecessor, was produced by Price. Then came 2022’s Invisible Pictures with its complicated core progressions and lush arrangements (produced by Andrija Tokic) and early this year he released his fourth full length album that he recorded himself at his house on an old tape machine. Ivey doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. He was recently nominated for a Grammy for the writing of Margo‘s Hard Headed Woman LP
