Water Street began like many storied bands do, a bunch of high school kids playing music in a garage. Formed in 2014, Water Street took its name from their practice location - a former auto-body shop, turned into a music studio. The band consists of Dave Paulson (Acoustic Guitar/Vocals), Julia Aiello (Vocals), Connor Konecnik (Drums), Eddie Woodcock (Electric Guitar), Brendon Gardner (Bass) and Alex Kerssen (Keys).
The band released their first album Waiting for Martin in 2016 to high acclaim. Lydia Hillenberg from Vents Magazine wrote, “Water Street is one of the best well-rounded musical efforts emerging from the indie scene in recent memory.” With the release of the album the band was invited to play one of the main stages at Bethlehem’s Musikfest that same year. The band went on to release “Dear You,” a five song EP in 2018.
In 2019 Water Street went to work in Asbury Park recording the first tracks for their 10-song album “All We Tried to Be.” As the band worked through the first five tracks on the album the COVID-19 epidemic hit, closing studios and halting their work. Undeterred, in 2021 the band regrouped and built their own studio back in their garage on Water Street and brought in New York-based producer Joe Webster to finalize the album. The album was met with rave reviews, with several of the tracks on the album getting radio play.
In 2023 the band released 2 new singles, “Pen Pals” and “Carolina”, catching the attention of Philadelphia Indie label Free Dive Collective and owner Tyler Ripley. The band signed with the label in the spring of 2024 and immediately began recording and releasing new music under Ripley’s direction with resounding reviews. Keith Pro from Indie Band Guru wrote, “Water Street has been around for a while, but seems to have found their stride…a brighter more Pop-focused sound has emerged and caught the attention of a growing fan base…This is not just a band of kids trying to get attention anymore. Water Street pours out emotion and welcomes listeners to come for the ride. This is Power-pop songwriting at its best!”
Water Street’s evolution as a band is evident in this collaborative effort that now shapes their sound – its six members hailing from dynamic backgrounds, seamlessly coming together to create their distinctive musical identity and relatable soulful music. Dave Franklin of Musikpool says of the band, “If rock music is seen as being boisterous and bold, roots, deft and earth-stained, then it is the pop accessibility and indie finesse that the band throw into the mix that helps set their unique tone, a tone best described as infectious yet deftly done, music that falls between pop and a hard place. Perfect for the contemporary audience, no matter what their preferred sound or style.”
Water Street tells a story people can relate to – one of shifting identities, life’s ups and downs and emotional realness. Their emphatic message is delivered through a meticulously crafted dynamic soundscape with lush musical arrangements and introspective lyricism that sets them apart from other bands.

James Barrett
James Barrett’s “before” looks a lot like yours. After releasing his debut LP The Price of Comfort, the Scranton singer-songwriter moved onto his next planning phase, stuck between eras labeled by plaintive acoustic tracks and the ringing clarity of a full-band effort. In October 2019, Barrett began writing what would become his sophomore record. It’s a love letter to the hushed splendor of The National and the spaced-out bombast of Angels & Airwaves, embellished with a theatrical identity boosted by live strings, horns, and good friend Amanda Rogan lending vocals to many moments. Barrett released the record later in 2021. In the years since Barrett has been working on his third LP which he intends to release in 2025.”
